Celestia would crush Nightmare Moon like an insect. She does draw power from the Sun, after all, how can power facilitated from a floating ROCK be any harm to her?

To be honest, I don't know how she hadn't been corrupted by her power yet.

She needed the elements to defeat Nightmare Moon. So either Luna's jealousy and anger made her five times more powerful so Celestia isn't as powerful as you thought or they created the elements by sacrificing some of heir power and in doing so limited the power she and Luna could use. So either she knows that there is always something that can beat her or she sacrificed a great deal of power in making the elements. Then we have to consider Chrysalis...

Or maybe she doesn't want to hurt her sister through possible accidental overuse of her power?

Then again, in canon the Luna was supposed to be possessed, so it is possible her power had been augmented by anger and jealousy...

Chrysalis was cheating by siphoning love energy from Shining Armor, but I'll give you that.

It is possible that Princesses sealed a lot of their powers away and limit the amount they use. Good call, haven't thought of that.
